To understand, we first need to put into words.
Hello, I'm Jen and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and 6 years of experience working with adults and couples. I have diverse experiences working in mental health and harm reduction for substance use. Both settings have shaped my individualized approach to therapy. No one person is the same and their treatment should reflect that.
My theoretical background that influences my approach to your specific care is Psychodynamic Therapy. Meaning, we do not always have full awareness of ourselves. Sometimes, we're asleep at the wheel.
Therapy can be helpful for when we can't outthink a problem, seem to be running into the same issue over and over, and feel stuck about what we want to do. We humans are complicated; we tend to be of many minds, about many things. This type of therapy is where we don't just listen to what is said out loud, but we pay careful attention to what is happening too.
